Currently all Pill Cameras, used as an alternative to both endoscopy and colonoscopy, are MR unsafe. Patients should not undergo an MR examination if it is still in their digestive system.

If a patient has undergone this procedure within the last two weeks they must confirm they have excreted the capsule before an MRI scan can proceed. If the patient cannot confirm the PillCam has been excreted they must be sent for an abdominal x-ray to confirm whether it is still within their body or not.

If it has been more than 2 weeks the patient can be scanned.

In GGC Medtronic PillCam Colon 2 is currently being used. This device will be reviewed on a regular basis.
