There are an increasing number of medical devices which patients can present with. The MRI community tend to call these devices Active Implanted Medical Devices (AIMD’s). These are typically implanted devices that have active electronic or magnetic components. That is, they are distinct from passive implant devices or devices with purely mechanical features.
What is included here is a list of common AIMD’s and guidance as to how a patient with these devices may be safely scanned in MRI.
